KHARTOUM, Sudan
Today, Lubna Hussein was sentenced to a month in prison for violating Sudan's public indecency law. No, she did not harm anyone. She was not a participant in a violent act or protest. Hussein, a 43-year-old journalist, wore pants.
Under a conservative Islamic law, women are flogged when deviating from wearing traditional garb that the Khartoum government considers indecent.
Today I commend Hussein, and the other 40 women standing outside the courthouse in support of equality.
It's unfathomable what we take for granted; what we complain about in our daily lives, when women across the globe are simply fighting for a chance - to be equal.
